Pastor’s Statement of Faith, Vision, and Mission

Brief Testimony: Though I grew up in a Christian home, I did not receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior until October of 1973. I felt called into ministry in 1975 however, I ran from this calling for many years. I did serve in many ministry areas including an active gospel music ministry, singles ministry, and homeless ministry. I finally accepted the call to the Gospel ministry in 1991. After several years of schooling and two interim pastor positions, I was called by Snow Memorial Baptist Church. God called me to Abney Memorial Baptist Church in 2005 and Mechanicsville Baptist Church where I have experienced a fulfilling ministries.

Salvation

I believe my salvation comes solely from the grace of God, not through any merit or worthiness of my own. (Ephesians 2:8) My beliefs rest entirely on the Word of God which is inerrant and wholly inspired by the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Godhead

I believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections, and worthy of precisely the same homage, confidence, and obedience

Jesus Christ is God, the Living Word

Jesus Christ is God, the Living Word, who became flesh through the miraculous intervention in the life of His earthly mother Mary by the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of all humanity through His death, burial, and bodily resurrection to sit at the right hand of the Father. This act of Christ allows the sinner to be saved by grace through faith, thus guaranteeing his/her eternal salvation.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, is the Third Person of the blessed Trinity, though omnipresent from all eternity, took up His abode in the world in a special sense on the day of Pentecost according to the divine promise, dwells in every believer, and by His baptism unites all to Christ in one body, and that He, as the Indwelling One, is the source of all power and all acceptable worship and service.

Marriage

Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and Himself, I as Pastor of Mechanicsville Baptist Church will only recognize and solemnize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman.

Personal Vision Statement

As is evidenced from my brief statement of beliefs, I wholly trust Christ for every area and provision in my life. It is my goal, not only to share the message of salvation in Christ, but also the message of our freedom in Christ. I truly believe if our society would come to a full understanding of who Christ truly is and of His unending grace, our churches would be filled and our wayward society would be healed. Unfortunately, our culture is taking us farther and farther away from the absolute truths of Christ.

My Personal Vision

My personal vision is a church where all obstacles to full evangelism are eliminated. Though I believe we have a rich tradition in the church in America and tradition is important, it should not stand in the way of the great commission. What unbelievers are truly looking for in a church is changed lives. Until we can put aside our own fleshly desires, realize that God is the center of the universe, and unite to spread the Gospel, the church will continue to struggle. My goal is to unite people in a unified cause. To put aside all obstacles to the knowledge of whom Christ truly is by educating people as to how God views them through Christ. This will free them to become effective ministers of the Gospel.
